Owners: Chris Farrell

Overall Quality: 84%

Chris Farrell Membership Product Overview

When you land on the Chris Farrell Membership Introduction page, Chris will pop right up with a short video where he says “I will take you by the hand” and teach you affiliate marketing. He is very pleasant, believable and immediately instilled a feeling of trust for me. Chris Farrell Membership is an introductory program that teaches absolute beginners how to make money online and is one of the most trusted programs for learning affiliate marketing. The program provides the basics in an easy-to-understand presentation so it won’t be complicated for people who are new to the business. Chris Farrell has been doing this for a long time and is very successful and reputable. Once, he was reported (by IM ReportCard) to have the number one internet marketing coaching program.

According to his website, Chris started internet marketing in 2008 without knowing anything about it. Within six months he was having many $250 days. Within 9 months he had his first $1,000 days. In August 2010, He made over $1 million in 24 hours. If you make $1 million is 24 hours please let me know because I want to be your friend!

The Positive & the Negative on Chris Farrell Membership

Positive Points

  • Low cost to enter program
  • Inexpensive compared to other programs
  • Easy website building
  • Decent support
  • Step by step training
  • Can set up email campaign easily
  • Lots of high-quality instructional videos
  • Private coaching
  • Live webinars
  • Good training on writing e books

Negative Points

  • Some content is outdated
  • Forums not well-organized

  • Some difficulties with navigation
  • Not for seasoned marketers or those who have advanced to a high level
  • Upselling. For example the $997 Mentor Me program is not mentioned up-front
  • Program is not easily canceled and with money back guarantee there may be some difficulty

Who is it For?

The Chris Farrell Membership is for beginners. When I was first looking for affiliate marketing opportunities I knew nothing about online marketing and was an absolute beginner. After Wealthy Affiliate, Chris was my second choice.

Tools & Training

21-day training includes:

  • Article marketing
  • Social media marketing
  • SEO Search Engine Optimization
  • Video marketing
  • Email campaigns
  • WordPress training
  • Website building
  • Creating e books
  • Live webinars

Each day of the 21-day training program comes with a detailed video lesson and an outline of essential steps. Additionally there is a written guide with a few other details not mentioned in the video.

Support

Chris actually lists his phone number where members can call and submit questions although some have said the response is not that great. Additionally, there is a member-driven marketing forum designed for this purpose. Although experienced marketers can provide useful information through this, some of the responses come from under-qualified members. In short, there is support that is better than most but not top-notch. For example, you have direct access to Mr. Farrell with the Mentor Me program .

In Conclusion – My Final Opinion

Is Chris Farrell Membership a scam? Definitely not. It is a legitimate and solid business opportunity and receives consistently high ratings by people in the online marketing world. In my opinion it is the second best online marketing course out there. Click here to see number one.

The Importance of Business Networking

seniors networking

The Importance of Business Networking

You cannot overestimate the importance of business networking. Business Networking is a very valuable way to expand your knowledge, learn from the success of others, attain new clients and tell others about your business. Small businesses, big corporations and non-profits are all getting in on the act. Why, because it provides so many opportunities! There are even networking events for Affiliate marketing!  Madeline Bell, president and CEO of The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) says it well. She tells her own children “You will likely get a job through who you know rather than through your education or work experience.”

She goes on to say that networking should always be done with an intention. Maybe your intention could be, “I want to make three new contacts” or I would like to make at least two follow up appointments with the people I meet.” Don’t network  just to collect business cards and be seen. In other words, know the importance of business networking and make the most of your networking experience.

Why should I network? How do I achieve success? Following are some tips so read on.

Referrals

This may be the first thing you think about when considering a networking group. When you join a group of like-minded people you yield high-quality referrals because of the relationships they have with potential clients. When someone gives you a referral make sure to follow up quickly and efficiently. It’s great to be able to contact a brand new prospect and say something like “Hi, this is _______ and I was talking with______ and they said I should contact you.” It opens the door much easier than a cold call! Likewise, be ready to give referrals to others if you have them.

The importance of the follow-up

If you connect with someone and have a meaningful conversation, be sure to follow up. Just a simple email that says you enjoyed meeting them and look forward to the next get-together is great . Be sure you stay in contact with this person because you never know what may develop as a result of your relationship

Enhancing your Profile

The mere fact that you are visible and have taken the time to attend a networking meeting can really boost your status among the group. You build your reputation as a reliable supportive person whose motivations expand beyond your own self-interests to include those of others. You have the opportunity not only to glean important information from others but to impart your knowledge onto them. Become a powerful resource for others. You reap what you sew and by doing this you are the one they are likely to consider first when they need what you offer.

Confidence Buildingold superman

If you’re an introvert like I am, attending networking meetings can be an effective way to “bring you out of your shell.”  Consequently, you find that you have to “push yourself” to talk to people and make connections. The more positive response you get from others, the more comfortable and confident you are. It might help to have an icebreaker as simple as “What brings you here” or “What kind of business are you in.” As you know, people’s favorite subject is generally themselves.

Motivational Tool

Networking and meeting other business owners is a great way to motivate yourself. It is not uncommon to receive praise and words of encouragement from others which helps empower you toward success. As confident as you may be, it is always nice to know that others recognize you for what you do.

Holding an office Within the Network Organization

Here’s a great way to get recognition within your networking group. Many groups have elected officers. For example, the group I belong to has a president, vice president and a treasurer. These people really get the spotlight because they are up front at every meeting. They announce themselves and the projects they are involved in.  Moreover, these positions generally don’t involve a great deal of time commitment and the return is great.

Making Friendsmen laughing

This is a nice perk that comes from networking. It is only natural that if you have commonalities with a person you will become closer to them as a result.

In Conclusion

These are ways to achieve success in networking. Please share some of your experiences and successes with networking with us in our comment section below!

Great business ideas for seniors

Are you thinking about starting a business? Here are some great business ideas for seniors

senior dud with computer

Woman on phone

So you’re retired. Now what? Maybe between the relaxing, vacations and golfing you have some time on your hands you’d like to spend productively. Do you have any business ideas? Of course, you’ve already thought about that, haven’t you?

It’s time to take an evaluation of your skills and interests. Can you come up with some great business ideas? Then ask yourself – do I need startup capital? How about licenses and permits? Will I need to travel or stay close to home? Do I need further education and training? How much time am I willing to spend on my business?

If you’re stuck coming up with good ideas, perhaps the following will help.

Online Marketing

Opportunities abound for online marketing but watch out for the scams. One way to avoid these is to look online for independent reviews. However, no matter how good something is there will always be someone who doesn’t like it. But, if the good far outweighs the bad review-wise, you may be onto something.

Perhaps the most popular way people make money online is through affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is a very simple process.  You are paid a commission for selling a company’s product or service (see my post entitled “Does affiliate marketing make money – let’s find out”). Wealthy Affiliate is the number one choice among bloggers and other online experts to get your training in this field. Check it out

Book Author

Have you thought all your life about writing a novel? Maybe writing about something you have a passion for. There are physical books and then there is the e-book which is an electronic version of a book which is read online.

Life Coaching

Life Coaching addresses the specific personal projects, relationships, conditions and transitions of your client. As a coach you discover obstacles or challenges and help your client unlock their potential and eliminate blocks. You then help your client choose a course of positive action going foward.

Consultant

This seems to be the way a lot of people go who have expertise in a particular field. As a consultant, you have the opportunity to leverage your experience, knowledge and connections into a business where you set your own hours.

Retirees with finance and litigation experience are highly sought after. Since you are an independent contractor and not an employee, many companies will pay you high fees because they don’t have to pay benefits.

Convert Your Home to a Bed and Breakfast

From first-hand experience I can tell you that if you own a nice place with good food and nice services, you can charge a lot. People are often seeking something different from the standard hotel and they are willing to pay for it. If you own your home, you already have the most important start-up asset. If you like to cook and entertain as well then this could be right up your alley!

Pet Sitter/Dog Walker

This appears to be a solid area for growth. Nearly two-thirds of US households have a pet (if you live in a different country from the US, you will likely find high numbers of pet owners as well). It is estimated the US contains 73 million dogs, 90 million cats, 16 million birds and a variety of other animals (did anyone say, Capybara?).

People pamper their pets and are willing to fork out the dough to a great sitter or walker when they are out-of-town. If you like animals why not check it out and put it on your list of business ideas?

Wedding/Event Emcee

Yep, you heard me correctly! I actually did this for a while but as an employee. However, I know people who do it as a business. A wedding/event emcee entertainingly moves the event along by announcing guests, coordinating various ceremonies and playing music.  You will need a knack for entertaining and an upbeat attitude.

This business takes some upfront investment and you will need a portable sound system capable of storing a lot of music as well as a lighting set up. Expect to pay a few thousand bucks for all this. However, people are also willing to pay a premium for a good emcee so you can recoup your investment after a few “shows.”

Start a Franchise

Many of the largest companies have franchise opportunities. Jimmy Johns, Papa Murphy’s, Subway, Pro Image Sports, Lawn Doctor and Novus Glass are just a few. For these you will need a bundle of cash for start-up ranging anywhere from $20,000 US to $100,00 US or more.

In-Home Senior Care

I have been in the senior newspaper business for almost 25 years.  And I am currently part of several senior industry networking groups. I can tell you that one of the fastest growing businesses right now is in-home senior care.

Many people of the baby-boomer generation are getting into this business. As our population grows older, so do the opportunities here. You need lots of compassion and patience for this as well as a love for working with older people. Furthermore you must deal with the various physical and mental difficulties that come with age.

Genealogical Researcher

You’ve seen all the commercials on television and probably know that genealogy is a hot topic right now and one of the popular business ideas. Kimberly Powell, past president of the Association of Professional Genealogists and the author of “The Everything Guide to Online Genealogy, 3rd Edition” suggests “Professional Genealogy: A Manual for Researchers, Writers, Editors, Lecturers and Librarians as essential reading material if you’d like to get into this business. She also recommends joining the Association of Professional Genealogists.

Translator

The global marketplace is expanding and reaching across borders which is consequently causing a growing need for this service. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook, the hiring in this area is expected to grow 18% from 2016 to 2026 – faster than other industries.

According to collegegrad.com demand will remain strong for translators of French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Hindi.

Data Entry

This can be a relatively steady source of income and you can do it from your home office. Generally, a company pays you for the number of entries you make. These opportunities seem to abound on the internet but like everything, make sure they are legitimate.

Senior Moving Services

Here’s another one that I see as a growth business. As much as we don’t like to recognize it, we have an aging population here in the US and all over the world. After raising a family, many older people who lived in their homes for years find these homes are becoming a burden because of their size and upkeep.

The great thing is that many older people own their homes outright so they can see lots of cash when they are sold. That’s where a senior mover comes in. In this business you will handle the organizing and planning of the move. This means you’ll handle the packing of household items, help the homeowner decide about items to sell and coordinate with the movers, You may even stage their home for prospective buyers. If the homeowners are moving to a retirement community, you will be armed with information and suggestions about communities that match their needs.

 Conclusion

I hope these business ideas have given you food for thought. We’d love to know your experiences so please leave your comments below.

Job search tips for the older worker

The Reality

Here are some job search tips that will help you in your quest for meaningful employment. Indeed, the job market for people over 50 can be very challenging. As you know, companies are constantly merging, downsizing and reorganizing and often the first casualties are older workers. Not fair, but a fact. Older workers will usually spend more time in their job search than their younger counterparts. People over 55 can expect to spend an average of 35 weeks while younger people average 26 weeks. However, you’re not average so read these job search tips for the older worker.

Ask questions about yourself

Before you interview or talk to anyone about your job quest, it’s a great idea to take time for self-assessment. After all, the better you know yourself, the more successful you’ll be at talking about yourself and conveying your best attributes in a job interview. I know, I know, you’ve had decades to get to know yourself but this is a great exercise and you may discover things about you, you didn’t even know.

Here are some questions you might ask yourself:question

  • What do I want in a job?
  • Who am I now?
  • What are my values?
  • Do I need to make a lot of money OR do I want to make a difference?
  • What are my strengths?
  • What are my weaknesses?
  • What are my skills?
  • What are my accomplishments?
  • Do I work well with people? What kind of people?
  • What contributions can I make in a job?
  • What makes me unique?
  • What is my experience and how can I use it in the position I am seeking?

There are online assessment tools you can utilize to get maximum benefit from this process.

Be sure to network

Did you know that many jobs aren’t even advertised to the public? As a matter of fact, the scuttlebutt on new positions is often kept in-house or within an industry where people network to find the right fit. I am part of senior networking groups so I know this first hand.  At these meeting, members talk about job openings – mostly marketing positions in retirement communities.networking

It certainly doesn’t hurt to contact friends and former co-workers to glean info about job openings. If you went to college, see if your Alma Mater has a career network you can use. Consider getting a Linked-In account to network online and utilize other social media. Through online research, you can find organizations that are particular onto your industry where you’ll meet others involved in the job search. One way to do this is through “MeetUp.” Find it online and there is one for just about every interest you can think of.

Dust off that resumeResume

How about this for one of your job search tips? Age-proof your resume by limiting your information from a chronological perspective. This helps you avoid the “too old” stigma. Also, only include relevant and more recent positions because there is no need to list every job you’ve had. If you attended college, don’t list the dates. As far as I’m concerned, any kind of dates are irrelevant and you don’t need to bring them up.

Consider that your old resume may no longer be appropriate so some changes may be necessary. There are tools like Resume Builder that can assist you with updating. Make it easier on yourself and use the same general resume for every job at which you interview and tailor it to each position you are seeking. Be sure to emphasize the knowledge you have in your field as well as special talents and skills you have developed. By the way, 80% of recruiters indicated that the summary at the top of the resume was the most important part.

Re-acquaint yourself with the interview process

The interview process remains the same as employers still would like to know the person behind the resume. If you have not had an interview in a while, you may want to brush up on your interview skills. Read articles or even watch YouTube videos on interviewing. Anticipate the questions and have ready answers. In other words, be prepared! Keep in mind that the person on the other side of the desk may not be a good interviewer so put them at ease by being a good interviewee!

Before you interview, compile information on the company

Since it likely has a website, you can do some online research on the company prior to your meeting. Learn more about their products and services and who their customers are. See if you can find reviews. Do you know anyone who works for the company? You can contact them, let them know you would like to interview and perhaps they would impart inside knowledge that could help you secure a position. They might even give you a referral! A CareerXroads survey found that when someone referred a candidate, they had a far better chance of being hired than one who was not.

Practice an interview with an employer not at the top of your list

Perhaps you could start by interviewing with an employer you are less interested in just to get the practice. Not such a big deal here if you are rejected because you don’t have a lot of emotional investment. It can be a great learning experience you can take with you to subsequent, more important interviews.

VolunteerVolunteer

It’s another way to get your foot in the door if you have the time. As a volunteer, your perspective employer will experience your capabilities and work ethic first-hand. Companies hire people after they prove themselves as a volunteer!

  • Utilize local staffing agencies. Do a Google search by typing the keywords “staffing agencies” and then your city or town.
  • For US residents, the American Job Center is a great resource and just about every county has one. These connect employees with employers. They host hiring events, workshops and pay for job training.
  • Learn about your local Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). People over 55 who are unemployed and low income have access to this service. This program offers participants new skill building, additional work experience and the opportunity to earn a stipend while seeking employment.
  • Identify in-demand jobs that match your skills and interests and make sure to learn about the companies that are hiring for these jobs.

How to be successful with affiliate marketing

Seniors Thumbs up

How to be successful with Affiliate Marketing

Here are tips on how to be successful with affiliate marketing. These are ideas to use as a Wealthy Affiliate member or with any web based marketing you undertake. As you know, technology is constantly evolving and as a result digital marketing must change with it. These changes subsequently create challenges for online marketers who must keep up with the trends to stay relevant.

Set clear goals by asking yourself these important questions

How many page views would you like? Would you like to generate comments to your posts? Have you set sales goals? What kind of affiliate marketing earnings would you like to achieve? What is the most profitable affiliate program? Ask “How do I get ranked high in Google and other search engines?” For example, if one of your goals is to get first page ranking in a Google search, then concentrating on and updating your content is crucial. Similarly, if it is to get people to comment on your site, make sure you have a way for them to do that and become engaged with you.

Make your web design interesting and readable

Web design can influence the amount of time and attention a user spends on your site. So, make it attention grabbing, clean, easy-to-read and navigable. A catchy home page graphic can help because many folks are very visual. And – be sure to make it mobile friendly!

Continually add and update your content

As stated before, content is king! As you continue to update and add relevant content, think about how to rank high in a Google search. Google and other search engines will reward you by ranking you higher if you use relevant keywords. Higher rank = higher user engagement = more sales!

Be customer-centric

Think like your customers. Ask: “What would I like to see if I were someone visiting my site?” That is to say, shift to a customer-centric midset. This shift could be as simple as asking customer-centric questions. You are likely thinking about how to increase sales and that’s good. But you also need to think about how you can delight and “wow” the customer. Get your customers involved by asking for feedback and experiences with your product or service or ones that are like yours. The key to any kind of marketing is knowing your customer! Also, know where your customers hang out. Where do they go to get online entertainment and information? Twitter? YouTube? Linkedin?

Utilize SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Your goal is to be on page one of search engines such as Google and Yahoo. How do you accomplish this? By employing keywords in your website content that people will type in when they are searching for a product of service. As a member of Wealthy Affiliate you will have access to Jaaxy which is an awesome keyword tool. Also, your content needs to be fresh and updated. As you add content, always think in terms of keyword search optimization.

Use video

But don’t overdo it!. Don’t blast your customer with a loud video as soon as they come to your home page. Give them the opportunity to activate it and don’t make it too long. The video trend is likely to grow because social networks like Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook build their models around this.

Contests & Giveaways

People love getting things for free. Thus, if you can incentivize your website viewer with contests and/or giveaways, this can go a long way toward keeping them engaged with you.

Have good social media practices

Remember that social media is meant to be used for more than promoting your message. Social media should be used to build engagement and relationships with your customers. That being the case, you should employ social media. But be sure not to spam as people using social media have become savvy and will recognize spam when they see it! As you know, nothing turns people off more than spam!

Embrace mobile

Keep in mind that people are using mobile more and more. Therefore, just about everywhere you look you see folks holding and referring to their smart phones and tablets. In today’s world of online marketing, many of your messages will be seen on mobile devices

There is a lot more you can do to incorporate mobile into your digital marketing strategy. For example, you can place ads within apps and different social media sites so that you can better reach mobile customers.

By the way, mobile will continue to be a major factor in e-commerce. Keep this constantly in mind as you move forward.

Sing the metric song

Measure everything you can. In particular, concentrate in these areas:

  • What does it cost to acquire an online customer?
  • What are the most profitable niches for affiliate marketing?
  • How much is my average sale per customer?
  • Which affiliate links are the most successful?
  • What are my most effective keywords?
  • Which kinds of posts get the most positive feedback?
  • Where am I ranking in search engines such as Google?
  • Which websites am I competing against for the same keywords?

These are examples of the metrics you can employ. As you move along in your journey into online marketing, you will likely uncover many more.

Find a mentor coach or consultant

Not an expert? Ask someone who is. As a matter of fact, there is a universe of seasoned professionals available in this high-tech world that can teach you how to be successful with affiliate marketing. So never be afraid to get help. Remember, people like to be thought of as an expert so they will likely be flattered when you ask.

Conclusion

Keep these ideas in mind as you move forward with your online projects.

Great Part-Time Jobs for Seniors According to AARP

Great part-time jobs for seniors

Let’s talk about some great part-time jobs for seniors! I know, I know, it can be a tough world out there for many people in the 50-plus age category who are seeking full-time and even part-time employment. Even if you’re a seasoned professional with a resume a mile long, you could find it difficult to get your foot in the door because companies like to hire younger workers. Finding companies that higher older workers may involve some searching.  Of course, age discrimination is a whole other topic which I will likely address in a later post. But don’t despair, AARP has your back and has great suggestions for part-time work.

The AARP list of five part-time jobs for seniors

As you know, AARP is the expert on all things senior and here are some of their suggestions.

women at laptopBlogger: Is there something you are passionate about or in which you have expertise? Do you have decent writing skills and a commitment to providing your blog with fresh content? How about computer skills? Like working from home? Then this could be for you.

A successful blog is built around a precise topic or a “niche” in which people have an interest. It’s best that this “niche” is fairly narrow. For example, you may be more successful drawing an audience to your blog with information about the benefits of spirulina, instead of health supplements in general. You also need skills in employing keywords that people will type in when they are seeking information on the subject.

Some ways you generate income as a blogger is from selling products directly on your blog, advertising and affiliate marketing. I have another post all about the subject of affiliate marketing here.

You are working for your self as a blogger so it takes passion, dedication and discipline.

Athletic Coach/Umpire/Referee:

For this one you probably need to have at least some degree of physical fitness and stamina as there may be plenty of standing and even some stress (like parents yelling at you if they don’t like your call). Since you are probably going to work with kids, you will need to have some rapport with them. You need knowledge of the game and may need additional training and licensing.

There are opportunities at schools, youth programs and amateur leagues. Working hours can vary widely according to the sport and organization.

The pay isn’t great but then you are doing it for the fun and because your wife thinks you need to get out of the house more, right? Maybe $3,000 to $5,000 per season for a coach at a school  and $30 – $75 per game for an umpire or referee.

Woman teacherTeacher’s Aide: Here’s another one where it really helps to have an affinity for kids. Other qualifications might include patience and nerves-of-steel. Be prepared to undertake some clerical duties like grading papers, recording grades, setting up equipment and computer entry. You may also have to supervise the little ones in the cafeteria, schoolyard, hallways and on field trips. One of the best aspects of this job is one-on-one tutoring with a student who needs special help. If you like bonding with kids, this can be very rewarding!

You may work three to five days per week and six to seven hours per day during the traditional school year.

To qualify, you will need on-the-job training combined with a high school diploma. A college degree is better, as well as coursework in child development and previous experience helping special education students. Multitasking is a good skill to have. Depending on where you live (especially in the US) a second language, particularly Spanish, is highly desirable.

Teacher aide pay isn’t high but you’re likely doing it because you love the kids! Median full-time pay is $23,640 per year.

tour guide

Tour Guide: Do you have a knack for story-telling and performance? Do you like really getting into the history of a town or city and learning all about it? Do you like to impart your knowledge entertainingly onto a captive audience? A tour guide is one of AARP’s great part-time jobs for seniors.

I’m sure you’ve seen them as the tour bus drives by – they are the ones on the microphone pointing at various interesting landmarks and businesses. Or you may have noticed a big crowd of people on the street following a loud talking person. Well, that person is a tour guide. Could that be you? Looks like a lot of fun to me!

In this job you will lead tourists through points of local interest. For example, in Seattle where I live, you will see tour guides showing people around our Pioneer Square area or at the Pike Street Market. You will also see them in our “Ride the Duck” amphibious vehicle talking over the microphone while pointing out interesting businesses and landmarks as it zips down the street or through the water.

For this job you will need stamina as it could involve standing and/or walking for long periods. You may also need to drive a vehicle. Special licensing might be required. Also, a sharp eye is necessary to monitor guests and to ensure compliance with safety and security.

The hours are going to vary and might include days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Pay is $8.22 $18.05 per hour

To qualify, you often receive on-the-job training. Academic background requirements will vary. Certified Tour Professional (CTP) certification is offered through the National Tour Association.

Hourly pay range is $8.22 to $18.05.

Convention Center: When you think about a convention center you visualize everything from huge business-related shindigs to boat shows. These can be sources for a wide-range of part-time jobs that require a wide range of skills. These jobs include parking lot attendant, cashier, set up and break down, janitorial, information attendant and usher.
Also, keep on the lookout for food service jobs at banquets and special dining events as convention centers often hire line cooks, servers and baristas.

As far as qualifications go, this is all about customer service and working well with the public. It doesn’t hurt to have experience in food service and the different facets of the convention industry. A pre-employment drug screen may be involved and background checks are common.

Many convention centers will outsource the hiring and personnel management to firms that specialize in doing this so you might contact them. Another way to find out about positions is to stop by an event and ask about future openings

The pay varies greatly here – $7.25 – $20 per hour.

The wide world of online shopping and online marketing

The wide world of online shopping and online marketing – boy, have things changedonline shop

Here’s the deal fellow oldsters. In our lifetimes there have been incredible changes in three basic areas of personal behavior:

  • How we communicate
  • How we get information
  • What we buy/how we shop

And it is all because of personal computers, related devices such as smart phones and the internet that attaches them all (Hope I’m not offending Mac users with the term “personal computer”).

Boomers and seniors didn’t grow up with this stuff. Technology has come a long way in our lifetimes and it is often difficult to keep up with the lightning speed at which it changes. But, we must, especially if we are going to forge into the area of internet marketing.

Since marketing is all about buying things, the third in my list above is what I will talk about. How we shop and buy things online and the rapid growth in this area.

Why do people shop online?

I got three words for you: Convenience, convenience and convenience. Look at the world today compared to world of our youth. Everybody is in hurry and we have come to live with a got-to-have-it-now mentality. And, as is the case with Amazon, you can go to one place and purchase just about anything imaginable! Consumers also have a great amount of research at their command and can find out about a product or service prior to buying. There are tons of reviews on just about everything under the sun and people know the good and the bad before they purchase. And, I hate to say this having come from a sales background, but many folks just don’t like a pushy salesperson breathing down their back! According to a report by Capgemini Digital Transformation Institute, 40 percent of consumer respondents said they see in-store shopping as a frustrating activity, even calling it a chore.

Online Shopping Today

Here is how it sits right now in 2018.

Worldwide online retail sales are growing. This year, 2018, it is expected to reach 8.8% of total retail spending compared to 7.4% in 2016. This year $2.842 trillion is expected to be spent on online shopping. (Yep, that’s trillion with a “t”)

Which countries do it the most?

  1. UK at 18% of total retail sales
  2. China at 16.6% of total retail sales
  3. Norway at 12.7% of total retail sales
  4. Finland at 11.5% of total retail sales
  5. South Korea at 12% of total retail sales
  6. Germany at 11.2% of total retail sales
  7. Denmark at 10.8% of total retail sales
  8. US at 8.9% of total retail sales (interesting to note that we are at 50% of the UK total)
  9. Canada at 8.2% of total retail sales
  10. Japan at 6.7% of total retail sales

Which age groups do the most online shopping?

  1. 35% of 18 – 29 year olds shop online at least once per week
  2. 37% of 30 – 39 year olds shop on line at least once per week
  3. 23% of 40 – 49 year olds shop on line at least once per week
  4. 17% 50 – 64 year olds shop online at least once per week
  5. 11% of those 65+ shop online at least once per week

Which devices are used for online shopping?

  1. PC – 76.9% of retail sales
  2. Tablet – 12.4% of retail sales
  3. Smartphone – 10.7% of retail sales

Females shop online at a slighter higher percent than males.

Online Shopping in the Future

Online retail shopping is expected to hit $4.878 trillion by 2021 or 17.5% of all retail spending – a whopping 72% increase in just the next 3 years!

Mobile devices will increase as the method for online buying. Business Insider predicts that by 2020, mobile payments will account for $503 billion in sales.

Developing countries will have the largest increases in online buying.

By 2021 Malaysia will see the biggest growth in online shopping with India close behind.

The number of global buyers is expected to rise from 1.79 billion in 2018 to 2.14 billion in 2021.

The percent of total internet users who buy online will go from 61.6% in 2018 to 65.2% in 2021

(The above statistics come from statistica.com)

Product visualization will become more important in the online buying process. New technologies for visualization like virtual dressing rooms or virtual reality will become ecommerce trends.

Same-day delivery. A Forrester report states that 29% of consumers would be willing to pay extra for same-day delivery.

What does it mean?

Everything is a double-edged sword, isn’t it? On the negative side it means fewer and fewer of those cute little shops you used to frequent and enjoy so much. One must also consider how the online trend will affect the labor force and local economies. Vibrant areas may become depressed as a result and unemployment may go up. It also means we will need more and more warehouse space (not a good thing in my eyes as this adds to urban sprawl).

On the positive side is less stress for shoppers fighting the ravenous hordes, less traffic and a more relaxed buying environment. For us affiliate marketers, it means more and more opportunity and income potential.

Can online totally replace brick & mortar?

Online shopping will continue to soar according to every article I have seen. Brick & mortar retailers such as Macy’s, Sears, Radio Shack and of late Toys R Us, are closing their physical stores at an alarming rate. Unfortunately, many did not embrace the coming trend of online buying and even viewed it with irritation. They took the approach of slashing prices and offering deals but not enhancing the customer experience.

But there is a plus side for brick & mortar stores. One writer said that “Online shopping is having an offline moment.” More ecommerce companies such as Bonobos, are investing in the very kind of physical stores they made seem obsolete. Leading the defection is online God Amazon who spent $14 billion to buy Whole Foods.

My take

Online shopping is, at least presently, an unstoppable force. As technology becomes more sophisticated, so will we as consumers. We will demand more and want it faster.

I personally can’t see physical stores completely disappearing. You may recall (if you’re old enough) that when television made its debut, some said that the movie industry was toast. Didn’t happen. People now say that the print industry will die because you can get information online. That remains to be seen.

Taking all this into consideration, you can’t deny that there are huge opportunities for online marketing.

We love comments! So please leave yours below!

Does affiliate marketing make money – let’s find out

Affiliate Marketing

I think most of us have heard of it and perhaps have wondered, does affiliate marketing make money? Is it a scam or a get-rich-quick scheme? I think it all depends on the program. In any case, there is no doubt many online business ventures will empty your pocketbook and give you nothing in return. But some are great and we are going to explore one in particular that is neither scam nor scheme.

How does affiliate marketing work?

Let’s say you have a website all about the advantages of using certain health supplements. A customer comes to your site to read information about these supplements and there they find a link that says something like “Buy this product.” They subsequently click on that link and it takes them to the website where the product is actually sold. For example, the product is frog wart powder (I’m just making this one up) and the link takes the customer to Amazon.com where frog wart powder is for sale and voila! They buy the product. Because of your referral and the resulting sale, you get a commission! As you can see, the concept is incredibly simple.

What’s so great about affiliate marketing is that you don’t create a product, carry no inventory and are not involved in shipping. In fact, you never need to see or touch the product. As a matter of fact, there are a ton of companies out there that will pay you commission just for helping them sell their products. How cool is that! So, the answer to does affiliate marketing make money is, yes.

Keep in mind that approximately 3.5 billion people are online (yes, that’s billion with a b). That number continues to grow and as it does, so does the amount of pick-and-click online shopping. According to Digital Commerce 360 It is predicted the growth between 2015 and 2020 will go from $335 billion to $523 billion – 56%! Thus the opportunity here is limitless!

Wealthy Affiliate Beginnings

WA U

Wealthy Affiliate started in 2005 as the brainchild of Kyle Loudon and Carson Lim. While they didn’t know a lot about online marketing they decided to give it a try and learn on their own. Back in those “old days” of the internet there wasn’t the kind of affiliate marketing training you will find now but they forged ahead, became successful and built their own training platform for others wishing to build an online business. This is now their 13th year. That’s a nice long track record for any kind of business!

How does Wealthy Affiliate work?

  1. You choose an interest or “niche” as we call it in the biz. For example, you may be involved in something that you are passionate about like a hobby or a particular skill – this could be your niche. Suffice to say that just about anything could be your niche and has potential for generating an income.
  2. Create a website. My God!!!! Could anything sound scarier than that – especially if you are a non-techie! But fear not, you need no technical skill whatsoever and the website is built for you in the matter of a minute.
  3. As a result of this, you get visitors to your website. So how do you do this? You fill your site with all kinds of interesting “content” particular to your niche. So, if your niche is trampolines, you will have all kinds of information on that subject. Thus, when a shopper is looking for trampolines, your website will pop up on the first page of Google (this is the goal you are going for).
  4. As described previously, people will click on the link for that product and when they buy it (Say, from Amazon) you make money!

The Training

It’s like an online university in terms of the in-depth training. And if I, a “technology challenged’ senior can learn it, so can you!

You get started right out of the gate with what are called “Certification Courses” which are comprised of several levels:

Level 1 includes finding your niche, building your site, getting your site ready for search engines, creating content and understanding keywords. The message they keep emphasizing is a good one and the key to making money; have good content and have searchable keywords with low competition.

Level 2 includes branding, setting up an email account, making use of visuals and using WordPress effectively.

Level 3 is about monetizing traffic by un understanding affiliate programs and networks, adding affiliate links to your site, leveraging reviews and getting paid!
Level 4 is about mastering social media.

Level 5 is about improving indexing and a lot more about content.

Each level is full of training videos and straight-forward explanations of each process. Along with each level you are provided with a checklist of related tasks to check off as you complete them so you can see your progress!

AND – access to founders Kyle and Carson who are more than happy to lend a hand!
Also Included are:

  • Live Weekly Training Classes.
  • Question and Answer Periods.
  • Organized Classrooms on specific topics.
  • Video Training.
  • Tutorials.
  • Help from the many seasoned affiliate marketers who are members of the Wealthy Affiliate community.

Bootcamp Training

Here you will learn how to promote Wealthy Affiliate itself with step-by-step guides, tutorials and videos. Speaking of this, Wealthy Affiliate pays you a healthy commission when someone signs up!

Site Builder

Wealthy Affiliate’s site builder does it for you! I’m not a technical person so I would not be able to do in a year what the Wealthy Affiliate site builder does in a minute. No kidding,  all this technical stuff is going on behind the scenes with just the click of your mouse!

Keyword Tools

Jaaxy

The keyword tool used is called Jaaxy. What does Jaaxy do? It is a built-in feature within Wealthy Affiliate that allows you to find and analyze relevant search terms. Search terms are the words that people type in to get to your site and so you need relevant ones within your site content. For each term you are considering, Jaaxy will show you the overall monthly traffic of it, the QSR (the competition for that term) and the estimated amount of traffic you will get if you are ranked in the first page of Google. So, imagine the hours and hours of research this can save you. Wow!

Support

Wonderful support by the owners Kyle and Carson and among the thousand’s of seasoned members who will help you with an issue or solve a problem, almost as quickly as you can type in the question. Yes, people at Wealthy Affiliate are there to make money but they are also more than happy to lend their expertise! Beside all the cool features found in Wealthy Affiliate, I think it specifically was the support and helpful community that got me to say Yes!

How much money can you make?

Only you can answer this. Just like anything else, you get out of it what you put into it. This is NOT a get-rich-quick scheme and like any other business, you build it from the ground up. The potential for a lot of money is there because, as stated before, there are a lot of people buying things online and that universe continues to expand. The amount of commission you make when selling a product or service depends on which affiliate programs you are associated with. As you continue to get more into this you will get a good sense of the best paying programs.

How much does it cost to join Wealthy Affiliate?

Membership rattes

Joining as a starter member is free but I think you’ll soon want to take the step toward premium membership. That is $49 per month (although sometimes there is a $19 for the first month special). If you really want to save a bunch, you can sign up for the year at $359. As a result, it comes out to less than $30 per month.

Why a membership fee? Because you get so much! Also, it’s obvious that Kyle and Carson put a lot of thought into this . If you tried to do on your own what Wealthy Affiliate does for you, I bet you would end up spending more money and have a whole lot more frustration!

Has Wealthy Affiliate had bad reviews or complaints?

Sure. But then again, Mother Teresa has probably had bad reviews and complaints. No matter how good a product or service is, there is always someone who is going to have a you-know-what up their you-know-what. However, with Wealthy Affiliate, the good reviews far outweigh the bad and that is another reason I joined after doing a lot of research.

Wealthy Affiliate vs. the competition

No question there are a lot of affiliate training programs out there and I looked at many of them. I studied many reviews from some of the top internet marketers in the world and time-after-time, Wealthy Affiliate made the top of their list. In terms of tools, training, community and cost , I found Wealthy Affiliate to be top dog.

What’s the catch

There is a catch only if you are looking for a way to get-rich-quick. You won’t. Just like any other business, you have to build step-by-step from the ground up. It takes work, dedication and focus

Personal Recommendation

Join. Yep, that’s what I’m saying. Feel free to look around at other programs and read the reviews but I think you’ll come back to this one. The answer to does affiliate marketing make money is a resounding “Yes.”
